Distributed, smaller-scale, and flexible electric grid installations are driving change in the data and control layers of the electric grid. As energy is produced and consumed at finer resolutions, new control applications and services will be created. The analytics to drive these applications and services will necessarily rely on a data layer that helps stitch these systems into a loosely coupled yet reliable energy delivery system.
Panels included:
- Data challenges as perceived by the electric utility industry
- Vendor provided data solutions
- Information and control challenges from rapid DER growth
- Experiences and lessons learned from other sectors
Emphasis was placed on critical areas where breakout sessions explored:
- Upcoming challenges in future grid control
- Data analytics needed to address the future grid
- Likely areas of rapid information growth and interface needs to support them
