Title: Cyber Security - A Brief Introduction
Presenter: Joe Gipson, Senior Operation Manager, Advanced Securities Initiatives Group, Cisco Systems, Inc.
Abstract: As the power grid becomes more connected to the Internet, the risk of a cybersecurity intrusion goes up. These intrusions could be motivated by financial gain or by malicious intent. Regardless, the net effect is a power grid not delivering the service or efficiency required. This presentation will attempt to raise awareness of the sophistication of the attackers and speak to ways to defend against the attackers.
Biography: Mr. Joseph (Joe) Gipson is the Senior Operation Manager for Cisco Systems Inc.’s Advanced Securities Initiatives Group (ASIG). As the operations manager, he oversees the group’s strategic planning and daily execution to include ensuring maximum efficiency and the smooth working of the group. In addition to his operations management role, Joe also leads two groups of research and development engineers investigating cyber security issues along with deriving mitigations based upon their findings.
Joe holds a B.S. in Computer Science and an MBA from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
