Graduate Education
Programs
CURENT's research covers large power network operations, control theory, wide-area sensor networks, supercomputing, secure communication infrastructures, central and distributed intelligence, and high power electronics actuator technologies. The Center supports more than 40 graduate students among the four domestic partner schools.
Certificate Program & Coursework (PDF)
All partner campuses require CURENT students to complete a core set of courses focusing on Center-specific studies, technical concentration, ethics, and entrepreneurship. Students will earn a Graduate-level Certificate upon completion of these course requirements. The courses are disseminated via distance learning technologies.
Exchange Programs
The Center has an exchange program with international partner schools. The program includes short-term and long-term faculty visits and student exchanges. Exchange students experience a globally-connected university research and education environment that strengthens the center, stimulates new innovation opportunities, and enables CURENT students to function more effectively in a global economy. In addition, there is a domestic exchange program among domestic partner schools, especially for Tuskegee students to spend time at Tennessee and other partner universities.
Industry Connectivity Program
Every CURENT student should participate in at least one of the industry connectivity program activities, which include: industry sponsored project or research fellowship, company internship, and one industry dissertation/thesis committee member.
Mentoring Programs
The mentoring program for graduate students in the center consists of:
- Mentoring by an industry member engineer
- Mentoring by an upper-class graduate student
- Mentoring for undergraduate and new graduate students
- Mentoring for REU students
- Mentoring for Young Scholar students
Student Leadership Council
The SLC consists of graduate-level students that serve as a liaison between CURENT and the National Science Foundation. The council also coordinates internal and external education activities.
