- Summer researchers from CURENT's REU, YSP, and RET programs showcased their research posters at UT's Research Symposium.
Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (May 28th - July 21st, 2012)
- Undergraduates from around the country were on campus to perform research with CURENT faculty and graduate students for the months of June and July.
- CURENT created the engineering design component for UT's Office of Engineering Diversity Programs summer experiences and worked with nearly 150 students to implement those projects.
Summer Young Scholars Program (June - July 2012)
- Rising high school juniors and seniors interested in electrical engineering were on campus performing research at our NSF/DOE Engineering Research Center.
Adventures in STEM: an Engineering, Math & Biology Camp for Middle School Girls (June 4-8th, 2012)
- 28 rising 7th and 8th grade girls will be able to participate in a week of engineering, science, and math-related hands-on activities at two of UT's most prominent research centers, CURENT & NIMBioS.
Whittle Springs Lab Tours at CURENT
- The local partner middle school visited UT's campus for hands-on lab demonstrations and tours of the Engineering Research Center's facilities. Read about it here.
2012 Industry Conference and NSF/DOE Site Visit (April 11-13th, 2012)
Science Night at Whittle Springs Middle School (Feb. 21st, 2012)
- Over 230 students and parents from the Whittle Springs community were on hand to particpate in engineering and science exhibits provided by CURENT and the East Tennessee Discovery Center. Additional details can be found here.
Sequoyah Elementary School Presentation (Dec. 13th, 2011)
- Education staff and graduate students visited 5th grade science classes to introduce electricity concepts. Students created electricity with magnets by building hands-on projects.
West High School Lab Tour Visit II (Dec. 8th, 2011)
- CURENT hosted a high school physics class to follow up on previously-taught concepts and allow hands-on lab experiences in our Engineering Research Center. The students also visited the Living Light Solar House, which was created for the U.S. Solar Decathalon.
West High School Presentation II (Dec. 1st, 2011)
- Education Outreach staff, graduate students, and CURENT Ambassadors visited to present electric power & smart grid concepts to a high school physics class.
Parents' Night (Nov. 28th, 2011)
- CURENT and the East TN Discovery Center hosted a Parents' Night Event at Sequoyah Elementary School. Over 100 young students and their parents visited! The event was featured in the Bearden Shopper-News here.
West High School Lab Tour Visit II (Nov. 11th, 2011)
- The Center hosted a high school physics class to follow up on previously-taught concepts. Students performed hands-on lab experiences in our Engineering Research Center. The visit was featured in the Bearden Shopper-News here.
Engineer's Day (Oct. 27th, 2011)
- The Center set up an exhibit for the nearly 400 high school students that visited campus for Engineer's Day. CURENT's exhibit featured solar panels, miniature fuel cell cars, and a full-size, fully-functional Electric Vehicle built by electrical engineering students.
