Title: Observability Analysis in the Generalized State Estimation with PMUs
Abstract: State Estimation plays a vital role in real-time monitoring and controlling of larger power systems, as it provides the most likely operation state, and helps to keep it working in a secure mode. The first SE algorithms were developed considering the entire system modeled at the bus-branch level since the topology processor reduces it in a simplified way. However, when topology errors arise, a different approach might be more suitable.
This presentation will discuss the formulation of the Generalized State Estimation, in which switches and circuit breakers are considered in the network model, with their status being estimated. In addition to that, an algorithm for observability analysis and measurement criticality in the presence of synchronized phasor measurements is also discussed.
Bio: Andre Langner received his B.S. and M.Sc. degrees from the Federal University of Paraná
(UFPR), Curitiba, Brazil, in 2014 and 2016, respectively. He is currently working toward the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering at Northeastern University, Boston, MA.
Presenter: Hantao Cui, UTK
Title: Power System Simulation Engines in the Large-Scale Testbed
Abstract: The CURENT Large-Scale Testbed (LTB) is an integrated simulation-based platform for new model and routine prototyping, wide-area control verification and demonstration. This talk will cover the architecture of the LTB, the data flow amongst its "modules", and an in-depth review of the interfaced simulation engines: Andes, OPAL-RT ePHASORsim and GridDyn. A general framework for the differential-algebraic equation (DAE) based power system simulators will be discussed using Andes as an example. Finally, the trends and challenges in power system simulation will be discussed.
The Andes simulation engine is available at https://github.com/curent/andes.
Bio: Hantao Cui received his B.S. and M.S. degree in electrical engineering from Southeast University in Nanjing, China in 2011 and 2013, respectively. He is presently a Research Associate and Ph.D. student at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, TN, USA. He is the technical lead of the CURENT LTB and the main developer of Andes.
