CURENT Hosts Reception for NASPI Guests

The Department of Energy's North American SynchroPhasor Initiative (NASPI) was recently in Knoxville for a three day Work Group Meeting. During that time, CURENT, which shares many of the same research and development goals, hosted a reception in the Min Kao Building to foster new collaborations with conference-goers and showcase work that the center has been doing.

"We were thrilled to host some of the top minds in the power systems field," said Tom King, CURENT's Director of Innovation & Industry. "CURENT has great capacity for collaboration with industry companies nation-wide, so this was a nice opportunity to highlight the quality of research taking place not only in our center, but in the East Tennessee region in general."

Companies such as TVA, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the Electric Power Research Institute, and Enernex were also present during the reception to showcase the level of commitment that this region has to electric power research.

Nearly 175 members of NASPI community attended the reception and toured CURENT's grid-monitoring lab (FNET), led by UT Governor's Chair Professor Yilu Liu. The group was also shown CURENT's large-scale and hardware testbeds, as well as a variety of power electronics facilities.
