Title: Reflections on Nondisclosure Agreements and Patents
Abstract: Anyone who is a researcher in the field of technology should be aware of the mechanics of Intellectual Property. As a computer science professor, Dr. Plank has had a great deal of exposure to nondisclosure agreements and patents. In this talk, he will share his experiences and reflections.
Bio: James S. Plank is a professor in the EECS department at the University of Tennessee. He received his B.S. from Yale University in 1988 and his Ph.D. from Princeton University in 1993, both in Computer Science. He has been at the University of Tennessee ever since. His research interests have been predominantly in operating systems, storage systems and information theory. Since 2014, he has co-led the TENNLab research group on brain-based, or "Neuromorphic" computing. Dr. Plank's role in this group is to research and develop neuromorphic applications, simulators, software systems and machine learning techniques. Dr. Plank's teaching interests are in the practical and efficient programming of algorithms, operating systems and computer architectures.
