Title: A smart and flexible microgrid with dynamic boundary
Abstract: A microgrid is a small local grid, which usually consists of controllable loads and distributed energy resources, like solar. It is able to operate in the grid-connected mode to reduce energy losses in transmission and distribution. More importantly, it can operate autonomously in its islanded mode to improve grid resiliency and reliability in case of main grid outage. Conventional microgrids often assume only one grid interface point. This talk will introduce the concept, design, development, and test of a microgrid with multiple grid interface points to further improve energy efficiency and reliability.
Bio: Dr. Lin Zhu earned his Bachelor's degree and Ph.D. degree from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China, 2005 and 2011, respectively, both in Electrical Engineering. He is currently a research assistant professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK). Previously, he worked as a research associate and postdoc at UTK. His current research activities focus on power system monitoring and control, smart distribution grid, and microgrid.
