CURENT
Center for Ultra-wide-area Resilient Electric Energy Transmission Networks
Dr. Adegoke Melodi Presents Seminar on Mon., July 13th.
Dr. Adegoke Melodi, from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) in Nigeria, will present an overview of the Nigerian Power System on Monday, July 13th from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm EST in the Min H. Kao Building, Room 524. All CURENT students are encouraged to attend.
Abstract: The aim of the presentation is to present information on Nigeria and the state of the power industry as needed for informed substantiation of a need for developmental work in the country, especially in the transmission (and distribution) networks sub-sectors. The information shared will include historical background on Nigeria and its power industry; an overview on the state of generating capacities, transmission networks, operation and administration of networks, issues on the system, prospects of development and government efforts to improve the power system. Additionally, information on FUTA and current FUTA research with respect to the power challenges in the Nigerian power industry will be shared. It is expected that the information will provide awareness on the Nigerian power industry, especially the transmission system, from a research perspective.
Bio: Dr Adegoke O. Melodi was born in Nigeria in 1971. He obtained his Master of Science Degree (with honors) in Electric Power Supply and Conservation of Energy in 1996 from the Kirovograd Institute of Agricultural Machine Building (now Kirovograd National Technical University) at Kirovograd, Ukraine. He obtained a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Electrical Power Stations and Systems in 2005 from Moscow Power Engineering Institute (Technical University), Russia. He achieved his degrees through successive scholarship awards from the Nigerian Government.
Dr. Melodi has presented his research at international conferences and reputable journals including proceedings of International Scientific/Technical Conference of Moscow Power Engineering Institute on ‘Radio-electronics, Electrical Technology, and Energy’ where he received a Best Paper Award in Power Systems Section in 2005; Journal-Vestnik of MPEI (in Russian); Advanced Materials Research journal; and IEEE Xplore.
Currently, Dr. Melodi is an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering and former Department Head of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria. His research interests include power systems design and analysis, power systems expansion planning and optimization of operating modes in transmission and distribution systems. Dr. Melodi is actively engaged in mentoring several graduate students in the Master's degree program and the Doctoral degree program, all in the areas of power systems engineering. He is a member of Nigerian Society of Engineers and IEEE.
