Dr. Fred Wang will speak at the University of Tennessee on Friday, April 3rd. His talk will will present an overview of CURENT with an emphasis on its power electronics related research activities in grid applications. The talk will also introduce some recent activities on maximizing the benefits and potentials of wide-bandgap semiconductor devices in high efficiency and high density power converters.
Dr. Wang will speak at 3:00 pm on April 3rd in Grier B (34-401B) on the Knoxville, TN campus. His talk is hosted by Professor David J. Perreault.
Bio: Dr. Fred Wang is a professor and Condra Chair of Excellence in Power Electronics at the University of Tennessee. He holds a joint position in Oak Ridge National Lab. He is the Technical Director of CURENT. His experience also includes eight years as a faculty member and the Technical Director at the Center for Power Electronics at Virginia Tech, and ten years as an engineer and R&D manager at General Electric. Dr. Wang obtained his BS from Xi’An Jiaotong University, China, and his MS and PhD from The University of Southern California, all in electrical engineering. His interests include power electronics, power systems and electric machines. He is a fellow of the IEEE.
