Title: Integrating Distributed Renewables and Shaping the Future of Electricity
Abstract: EPRI is a research institution which helps bridge the gap between academia and the electric utility industry. Its non-profit status and global presence help it to provide objective, impactful research findings primarily to electric utilities, while also benefitting the public. Within EPRI, the integration of distributed energy resources (DER) group works to improve and simplify DER’s connection to the grid. To do so, it considers everything from hardware (such as smart inverters for photovoltaics and batteries), controller strategies, and policies and standards. By working with many utility partners, local and national governments, and other research institutions, EPRI and its employees play a significant role in helping to shape the future of electricity.
Presenter: Dr. Ben York, Technical Leader, EPRI
Bio: Dr. York got his Ph.D. from Virginia Tech in Power Electronics in 2013. He is now a Technical Leader at EPRI where he runs research projects and field demonstrations onsite with member utilities around the world from New Orleans to Tokyo.
Presenter: Mr. Cameron Riley, Engineer III, EPRI
Bio: Mr. Riley got his M.S. from University of Tennessee in Power Electronics in 2014. He is now Engineer III at EPRI where he studies data analytics and visualization of solar and utility distribution measurements.
